I am a 23 year old event rider based near Leeds in Yorkshire who has a passion for horses and equestrian sport. I balance eventing my own horse, “Kama Night”, with my full time office based career.
At the age of 18 I became a working pupil for the International event rider Harry Meade, working alongside his head groom at the time, Karen Hughes. During this time I learnt about all aspects of maintaining the event horse, from pre-novice level up to 4*. I then attended University, studying for a degree in Forensic and Analytical Science. However I couldn’t be kept away from horses for long. I rode and worked for various riders during my time at university, including fulfilling a work rider position at Ride Kenya during the summer. In my final year at university I worked for Diane Smeaton at Yorkshire Dressage where I was provided with second to none dressage tuition and was involved with the rehabilitation of many horses using a water treadmill.
Despite being heavily involved with eventing since I was 18, my first season of affiliated eventing wasn’t until 2014, riding my boyfriend’s ex-advanced horse “Boolagh Jameson”. Once University education was complete it was time to ooncentrate on my own horse. During Kama’s first season we notched up 7 top 10 placings at BE100 and Novice level. Our aim for 2016 is to compete at 1* and Intermediate level.
I am very excited to be part of Airvest's A-Team and can’t recommend the Helite air jacket and the team at Airvest enough. It’s amazing how much safer I feel knowing that the air vest lanyard is clipped to my saddle whilst going cross-country.
Cheshire-based Imogen Kennedy is 12 years old - she has been riding since she was four and started competing on the lead rein aged six.
Since then Imogen has successfully competed in several disciplines such as showing, working hunter, pony club activities and pony racing which she loves. Her favourite discipline is showjumping and that is what she is now concentrating on - she has big dreams of representing Great Britain one day in the distant future!
Imogen started competing in British Showjumping (BS) competitions in November 2015 and quickly qualified for the Blue Chip championships for the 80cm and 90cm class, and also the British Novice and Discovery second rounds.
Her 13hh pony Tango who is owned by Vicky Clarke had never jumped BS before but proved to be a natural and upgraded to JC in the first 2 months! They are also top of the BS bronze league for the Northern Area for the winter period. Both are now looking forward to some bigger tracks and shows this coming season, and hopefully some qualifications for SCOPE and the BSJA Championships.
As well as competing in affiliated shows, Imogen also represents her Pony Club and her school in showjumping attending the NSEA championships in 2015 with her school team and with Pony Club competing in the Dengie Winter League Showjumping Championships where so far she has won both the first round and also the second round Area final.
I am 23 year old event rider based on the Wirral. I was a born and raised horsewoman, my Mum had me on a pony before I could walk and I've been lucky enough to grow up riding my ponies and going to every Pony Club meeting I could. I got my first horse aged 15 and competed at the Pony Club Championships at both show-jumping and eventing with him and competed up to BE Novice, he was awesome and took me from a kick-on kid to a double clear at Gatcombe Novice rider! I then had a short break from having a horse of my own while I studied for my GCSE's and A levels.
Luckily our family business is a livery yard, so with 25 stables outside my front door I didn't have to spend any time away from horses. My plans of going to university to study law were put on hold to per sue not only my riding career but also my modelling career. I've been as a model since I was 15 and have worked all over the country for many different brands and I can be spotted on TV in the advert for “Wowcher” riding a white horse down a golden beach.
My university plans are still on hold and might have to be for some time as my horses are everything to me. I have a 7 year old gelding, Fernando, who I bought as a just-broken 4 year, I fell in love with him and he's been my superstar ever since. Last year we qualified for and completed in the CIC* 6 Year Old Championship at Osberton International Young Horse Championships. Competing at this level against the top riders in the world confirmed for me how much I love what I do and made me aim high for the future. If we could get from poles on the floor to CIC 1* in 2 years, how far can we get in the future? This year we are competing in the BE100 Championship at the Mitsubishi Motors Cup at Badminton and then we're aiming for more novices and 1*'s throughout the season. I competed in the BE90 Championship at Badminton last year on a horse who was bought by an owner and has now been sold to a fantastic young rider and is having a great time with her. I also have a very exciting 4 year old mare who I backed and produced with my Mum and she will be starting her career at Burghley Young Event Horse and BE 4 Year Old classes.
I met the Airvest team at Frickley Park Horse Trials in 2014 when their bright pink Helite original airvest caught my eye. I won the class that day and decided to buy the air jacket with the prize money and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Not only because the air jacket is such fantastic quality and provides me with reassurance when I'm out on the cross country course, but because I also had the pleasure of meeting such a brilliant group of dedicated people who have become my wonderful sponsors and good friends.
