Sian Barton

I’m based in North Yorkshire and work full time in marketing for Suregrow Fertiliser, specialist slow release fertiliser for horse and pony paddocks. I’m from a very non-horsey background but I’ve always had an absolute passion for all things equestrian.

At 18 I became a working pupil for International event rider Harry Meade, working alongside his head groom at the time, Karen Hughes. During this time I learnt about all aspects of maintaining the event horse, from pre-novice level up to 4*.

I then attended University, studying for a degree in Forensic and Analytical Science. However I couldn’t be kept away from horses for long. I rode and worked for various riders during my time at university, including guiding mobile horseback safaris in the Chyulu Hills at Ride Kenya during the summer.

In my final year at university I worked for Diane Smeaton at Yorkshire Dressage where I was provided with second to none dressage tuition and was involved with the rehabilitation of many horses using a water treadmill.

Despite being heavily involved with eventing since I was 18, my first season of affiliated eventing wasn’t until 2014, riding my boyfriend’s ex-advanced horse “Boolagh Jameson”. Once University education was complete it was time to concentrate on my own horse. Which leads me perfectly onto introducing my trusty steeds…

Kama Night (Kama) – 12 y/o ex racehorse

I’ve owned Kama since he was a 5 yr old and he will always be my furry partner in crime. In his first season eventing (2015) he exceeded all expectations and was placed in 7 out to 11 events from BE100 to Novice level. In 2016 he was super consistent at novice level and we completed our first CIC* event together. This year we want to up our game even more and step up to Intermediate level as well as completing another 1*. Fingers crossed!!

Dupicor (Danny) – 9 y/o warmblood, bred and owned by Mandy Riley

Danny is a new ride for me in 2017 and I’m very excited about the opportunity that Mandy very kindly offered to me. He’s a super little chap (very cuddly and a proper people person) and had a great season last year with his previous rider so I’m eager to get going. Our first event together was Northallerton Horse Trials at BE100 where he showed so much promise in the dressage, jumped a super showjumping round and went XC like a machine! I’m very excited for the 2017 season!

I met the Airvest Team at Skipton Horse Trials where I needed a new air canister for my old air jacket (a different brand). The air canister port was damaged so they very kindly let me use one of their demo jackets for my XC round. After that I just had to have one of my own. It was of superior quality to my old jacket and the colour was so smart. Since then the air jacket collection is growing! My boyfriend Adam wears the Navy jacket, I wear the baby blue one and I have a softshell gilet air jacket for everyday riding at home. Looks super smart but safe at the same time, win-win!
